    Diploma in Clinical Dermoscopy - Coming 2026

    Program Overview
    The Diploma in Clinical Dermoscopy offers a high-intensity, practice-based clinical immersion designed to consolidate advanced dermoscopic skills in real-world settings. Candidates will join The Skin Cancer Doctor team for a 4–5 day placement, consulting at pace and receiving direct mentorship from expert dermoscopists.

    Placement Format
    • Duration: 4 or 5 consecutive clinic days
    • Prerequisite: Completion of the Dermoscopy Online 55-hour foundational course
    • Consulting Pace: Four patients per hour
    • Supervision: Continuous expert shadowing and one-on-one real-time training
    • Assessment: In-field evaluation, supervisor reports, and portfolio evidence

    Clinical Duties
    • Join the clinical team and participate in full-service delivery
    • Consult independently under supervision, maintaining clinical records and capturing annotated dermoscopic images
    • Engage in case discussions and receive immediate feedback from supervising dermoscopists

    Case Mix and Exposure
    • Benign Lesions: High volume of seborrhoeic keratoses, dermatofibromas, melanocytic naevi, solar lentigines, vascular lesions, and skin tags
    • Keratinocyte Cancers: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), intraepidermal carcinoma (IEC), and solar keratosis
    • Melanocytic Lesions: Occasional lesions suspicious for melanoma
    • Clinical Ratio: Approximately one skin cancer detected per three patients

    Learning Outcomes
    • Confident recognition and triage of common benign and malignant lesions
    • Competent decision-making for biopsy, excision, referral, or conservative management
    • Integration of dermoscopic findings into procedural planning
    • Ethical image handling and effective patient communication
    • Demonstrated high-level dermoscopic competence by placement completion

    Supervision and Assessment
    • Supervisor Requirements: Credentialed dermoscopists providing structured feedback
    • Formative Assessment: Real-time feedback, mini-CEX style observations, and case-based discussions
    • Summative Evidence:
    • Annotated image log
    • Supervisor endorsements
    • Documented consultations
    • Reflective learning entries

    Eligibility and Billing
    • Entry Requirements:
    • Completion of the Dermoscopy Online foundational course
    • Current clinical registration
    • Billing:
    • Australian graduates with RACGP or ACRRM Fellowship may bill patients during placement to offset course costs
